Int’l Quran Competition for Women Kicks off in Jordan

The 8th International Holy Quran Competition for Women in Jordan began in Jordanian capital of Amman on Saturday, May 11.
It is held on memorization, recitation and interpretation of the Quran under the patronage of Jordanian Queen Rania, Al-Ray daily reported.
According to Jordan’s Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Minister Muhammad Al-Qudhat, from among 42 countries that had been invited to take part in the contest, 31 have sent their representatives.
He said women experts in Quran recitation and Tajweed as well as a number of scholars from Arab and Muslim countries will from the jury panel of the contest.
Al-Qudhat added that the international competition’s categories are memorization of the entire Quran along with interpretation, memorization of 20 consecutive Juzes (parts), and memorization of 10 consecutive parts along with recitation.
The contest will conclude later this week and winners will receive their awards and certificates of honor at the closing ceremony.
Memorizer of the entire Quran Hakimeh Nasiri will represent the Islamic Republic of Iran in the Jordanian Quran contest for women.
