Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Imam Khamenei said people’s enthusiastic and vibrant turnout in the upcoming elections will safeguard the country and dishearten the enemies.
His Eminence made the statement on Wednesday, May 15, while addressing thousands of people at Imam Khomeini Hosseinya (religious center) in Tehran.
Imam Khamenei noted that the enemies had been hoping that the elections would not be held as planned but now that they have failed in that, they are making attempts to discourage people from voting.
His eminence said that it is one of the enemies’ main tactics to dissuade people from participating in the elections by spreading the idea that casting votes is of no use.
The Supreme Leader referred to the June 14 elections as another test for the Iranian nation and underlined that in order for realizing their goals and disappointing the enemies, the Iranian people will massively and enthusiastically participate in the polls and from among the candidates introduced by the Guardian Council elect an eligible, pious, faithful, revolutionary and steadfast person who can move the country forward on the path of progress.
His Eminence regarded next month’s elections as the main issue of the country that will have short-term and long-term effects.
Imam Khamenei said Iran’s elections have also become an important issue internationally, so much so that one month to the election day, the world’s think tanks and Iran’s enemies are closely following the preparations for the elections.
His Eminence said while the Iranian nation seeks to choose the most eligible person who can move the country forward in material and spiritual domains, the enemies hope for a person who will take Iran backward and run it in line with the policies of the enemies.
The Supreme Leader further urged the country’s officials and political activists to give hope to people as the country’s realities and the resolve of the nation raise hopes in every just and unprejudiced person about Iran’s future.
Pointing to the criteria for selecting the most eligible candidate, Imam Khamenei said commitment to the law is an important criterion for the candidates and that no one should infringe the law.
His Eminence also underlined that voters must pay attention to the slogans of the candidates and vote for those whose slogans are based on realities.
Elsewhere in his remarks, Imam Khamenei referred to the coming of the month of Rajab on the lunar Hijri calendar and regarded this month as an opportunity for raising one’s spiritual capacity.
His Eminence described the participation of people, especially the youth, in Itikaf (religious retreat) rituals as very beautiful and said all the blessings and accomplishments of the Islamic Revolution have been achieved because of these spiritual treasures.
