“Medina” Mosque Opens in Kazakhstan
A new mosque called “Medina” was opened at a ceremony on May 18 in Jetisusk region in Almaty, the Republic of Kazakhstan.
According to IQNA’s branch in Central Asia, Nurbek Yesmagambet, imam of the congregational prayers in the city addressed the ceremony, which was attended by religious and local figures.
He said that with a capacity of over 3000 worshipers, the mosque is regarded as the fourth great mosque of the region.
The construction project of the mosque began in 2010 and it is now completed in three floors with separate prayer halls for men and women, washing rooms, a library and a hostel.
A new Islamic school will be set up in three floors besides the mosque in the near future, he added.
Representatives of the Office for Muslims’ Religious Affairs in Kazakhstan and officials of Almaty’s Municipality were also present at the ceremony.
