Speaking to IQNA, Hojat-ol-Islam Abdul-Jalil Al-Makrani said this is especially evident in the field of Sawt and Lahn.
“Therefore, it is recommended that these regulations be unified and passed in a package by a creditable international Islamic organization and be applied in all international Quran contests.”
He said there are many verses of the Quran as well as Hadiths that call for endeavors in Quranic fields and organizing Quran competitions is acting upon the teachings of these verses and Hadiths.
Hojat-ol-Islam Al-Makrani described the Islamic Republic of Iran’s international Quran competition as a successful Quranic event, saying that members of the jury panels in Iran’s contest are selected from among the top Quranic figures of the Muslim world.
He said presence of prominent Quranic figures in the jury panel will help enhance the competition’s status.
The director of Hazrat Roghayye (SA) Quranic Center in Saudi Arabia further said there should be a mechanism for identifying and removing the shortcomings and problems of the international Quran competitions in order to improve their quality.
He also toughed on the requirements for the contenders in such competition saying that they should posses ethical characteristics as well as technical ones.
“One who takes part in a Quran competition should understand the truth of the Quran and Quranic teachings should be manifested in his conduct.
“Of course, having technical capabilities is also important and every Quran reciter or memorizer who takes part in an international Quran competition should master the rules of Tajweed, Sawt and Lahn.”
Hojat-ol-Islam Al-Makrani urged that on the sidelines of international Quran competitions, there should be cultural programs in which to defend the Quran and Islamic sanctities and promote the Quranic culture.
Elsewhere in his remarks, the Saudi Quran activist also referred to international Quran competitions held in Malaysia, India, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates as some other succefful Quranic events in the Muslim world.
