Addressing worshippers at Fatemiyah religious center in Najaf on Friday, Hojat-ol-Islam Sayyed Sadreddin Qapanchi warned against sectarian strife in the Muslim Ummah, Buratha news agency reported.
He regretted that there are reports that some Salafsits in Al-Azhar grand mosque send propagation groups to fight Shia Islam in Egypt.
Hojat-ol-Islam Qapanchi hoped that the reports are inaccurate and that it is not Al-Azhar’s stance toward Shia Islam.
He also regretted that some in Iraq seek to lead the country to a sectarian war and create a situation in Iraq like the one seen in Syria.
The scholar called on Iraqi ethnic and sectarian groups to resolve their differences through dialogue and beware of the dangers of division and discord.
