The ministry issued a missive saying that the institute and all of its branches must be closed, Al-Quds Al-Arabi newspaper reported.
It has cited inattention to the present laws regarding the activities of Dar-ul-Quran centers as the reason for the decision.
The ministry said the institute is not committed to a any specific Quran memorization method and does not follow the principles and procedures required for Quranic institutions.
The Dawa to Quran and Sunnah Institute has rejected the Awqaf Ministry’s order and said Morocco’s laws allow civil society institutions to work freely and independently without government supervision.
It said the ministry had better take measures against institutes whose activities run against the national and ethical values.
