This is according to senior cleric and member of Tehran’s Combatant Clergy Association Hojat-ol-Islam Hossein Ebrahimi, who, in an interview with IQNA condemned the recent crime committed by Takfiri Salafis in Egypt.
Several hundred Takfiris on June 23 attacked and surrounded the house of prominent Shia cleric Sheikh Hassan Shehata, during which the sheikh and three of his followers were killed. Their bodies were then dragged into the streets by the extremist assailants.
Hojat-ol-Islam Ebrahimi recalled Egyptian people’s devotion to Ahl-ul-Bayt (AS) and the existence of pilgrimage site belonging to Ahl-ul-Bayt (AS) in the country and said Takfiri ideas have no roots in Egypt and former Egyptian Mufti late Sheikh Shaltout was a pioneer among Sunni Muftis in forming a proximity with Shia source of emulation late grand Ayatollah Borujerdi.
He noted that Sheikh Shaltout was the one who established a Shia studies chair in Al-Azhar University.
Hojat-ol-Islam Ebrahimi regarded Takfiris, a dogmatic group who know nothing of Islam, as those who have sold themselves to the West and are the puppets of the global arrogance.
The cleric praised the statement issued by Al-Azhar in condemnation of the attack and said the move should be a model for other Sunni scholars to express their repugnance and outrage against Takfiri ideology.
