A 15-strong jury panel will judge the performance of the contestants in Malaysia’s 55th International Holy Quran Recitation Competition.
According to Iran’s Cultural Center in Malaysia, the panel is made up of Quran experts from different countries but the absence of Iranian Quranic figures in the panel is conspicuous.
The international contest kicked off Saturday night, June 29, at Putra Jaya World Trade Center in Kuala Lumpur with the participation of political, religious and scientific figures and ambassadors and envoys from different countries.
Iranian Cultural Attaché in Kuala Lumpur Ali Akbar Ziyaei was among the participants at the opening ceremony.
77 Quran reciters, including 16 women, from 46 countries are competing in this edition of the competition.
Ahmad Mashmoul represents the Islamic Republic of Iran in this contest. He is accompanied with Quran Master Ahmad Abolghassemi who will provide him with guidance to enhance his performance.
Mashmoul is scheduled to perform his recitation on Tuesday, the fourth day of the competition.
There are 15 judges in the jury panel of this edition of the international Quranic event, including 4 experts in Tajweed, 4in Sowt, 3 in eloquence, and 4 in Lahn.
They are from Malaysia (4), Morocco (1), Egypt (3), Jordan (1), Brunei (1), Saudi Arabia (1), Lebanon (1), Qatar (1), Indonesia (1) and Thailand (1).
The jury panel is headed by Othman Bin Mustafa, president of Malaysia’s Islamic Development Organization and head of the organizing committee of the competition.
Iran’s Cultural Attaché Mr. Ziyaei says despite efforts made to introduce experienced Iranian Quran experts to the organizers of Malaysia’s Quran contest, their expertise have not been used in the competition in recent years.
Malaysia’s 55th International Holy Quran Recitation Competition will conclude on Saturday, July 6, in an awarding ceremony officiated by the country’s king.
