The General Secretariat of Islamic Affairs has organized the competition, fr.starafrica website reported.
150 contestants from different cities of the country are taking part in the contest at Dunka Islamic Center in Conakry, the capital.
They compete in the categories of Quran recitation, interpretation and memorization of 5 and 15 Juzes (parts) as well as memorization of the entire Quran.
Addressing the opening ceremony on Friday, Prime Minister Mohamed Said Fofana regarded organizing such events in Guinea Conakry as an indication of the politicians’ interest in promotion of Quranic teachings in society.
The country’s interior minister and a number of ambassadors of Muslim counties, including the ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran, were present at the ceremony.
