Over 20 More Mosques to Be Set Up in Uzbekistan

Uzbekistan’s government plans to establish 27 new mosques for Muslims in the country by the end of the year.
According to IQNA’s branch in Central Asia, the Office for Muslims’ Religious Affairs in Uzbekistan announced that the government has also decided to renovate 124 old mosques in the country.
The religious office established 12 mosques in Uzbekistan last year and over 20 mosques have been renovated by the office so far.
There are 2037 mosques in the Republic of Uzbekistan where Islam is by far the dominant religion, as Muslims constitute 90 percent of the population while 5 percent of the population follow Russian Orthodox Christianity.
A 2009 Pew Research Center report stated that Uzbekistan's population is 96.3 percent Muslim.
