The Charlotte Observer reported that the center's open house came during Ramadan, the holiest month on the Islamic calendar.
During the month, Muslims traditionally gather after sundown each night to break the fast with a communal meal.
Center spokesman Jibril Hough said the annual event is a great opportunity to share in some good food as well as to get beyond stereotypes and misinformation and get to know who the Muslims are and what they believe.
