The registration deadline for the 1st national Quran competition titled Tilawat (recitation) has been extended.
This was announced by Yusuf Afrash, education and research deputy of the Dar-ul-Quran Kareem Organization, who also told IQNA that the deadline was extended to September 6.
He added that more than 4600 individuals have so far signed up for the nationwide Quranic competition.
According to the official, Tehran province with 480 registrations has the highest number of contenders and it is followed by the provinces of East Azerbaijan, Razavi Khorasan, Kermanshah, and Qom with 467, 362, 359, and 274 registrations.
Afrash noted that those willing to attend the competition need to be both reciter and memorizer of the Quran so that they can recite the verse from memory.
He said the competition aims to spread the culture of memorizing the Quran among the Quran reciters and others.
“The contenders should also be familiar with the concepts of the Quranic verses as they will be asked questions about the concepts, too.”
He went on to say that the provincial stage of the competition is slated to be held in October and the national level will be organized in February.
