He made the remark in his Friday prayers sermon at Imam Sadeq (AS) mosque in the city of Al-Daraz, adding that he situation will continue until serious reforms are introduced, the prevalent corruption in the institutions of power ends and the nation gains the right to elect their rulers.
Ayatollah Qassem underlined that the ruling regime in Bahrain has disregarded the recommendations of the UN Human Rights Council and continues its crackdown on freedom and violation of human rights.
The senior cleric underlined that nothing has been left of freedom of speech for individuals and political institution as a result of the crackdown on freedom.
He referred to the statement of the UN Human Rights Council during its 24th session (September 9-27), saying that it shows the council member states’ concerns over the severe human rights situation in Bahrain.
47 countries, including the US and UK, have called on Bahrain’s government to implement the recommendations of the independent fact-finding committee about human rights violations in the country.
Bahrain, which is home to the US Navy’s Fifth Fleet, has been the scene of anti-regime protests since February 2011, and scores of people have been killed and hundreds more injured in the regime crackdown.
The protesters, however, say they will continue holding demonstrations against the Al Khalifa regime until their demands for the establishment of a democratically-elected government and an end to rights violations are met.
