As many as 7994 individuals will compete in the provincial stage of the second Talawat National Quran Competition.
This is according to head of the Dar-ol-Quran Karim Organization Mehdi Qarasheikhlu who also told IQNA that the provincial stage will be held in different provinces on November 28-29.
He said the province of Kermanshah has the largest number of participants (773 individuals) followed by Khorasan Razavi (618), Tehran (604) and East Azerbaijan (565).
Those winning top ranks in the provincial stage will make it to the final round slated to be held in Tehran in February, he stated.
Qarasheikhlu added that the second edition of Talawat National Quran Competition is organized with a new approach which is aimed at promoting attention to the concepts and meanings of the verses of the Quran as well as learning the Quran by heart among reciters.
Head of the Dar-ol-Quran Karim Organization further underlined the need for spreading the culture of Quran memorization in the society.
He said it is not necessary for everyone to learn the entire Quran by heart but some can memorize a Juz (part) or half a Juz while others have the ability to memorize more parts of the Holy Book.
What matters in the field of Quranic activities is helping people get more acquainted with the Quran,” he added, noting that organization of Quran competitions could be helpful in this regard.
