TEHRAN (IQNA) – Some regional countries thought that if the ISIL Takfiri group gains power, it would weaken Shias, Hezbollah, the Iraqi government and Houthis in Yemen, a Lebanese political analyst said.

Speaking to IQNA, Talal Atrissi noted that these countries idea was based on a strategic mistake.
He said the so-called Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) does not seek confrontations with Shiism only but with all Islamic schools of thought.
Atrissi regretted that there are some countries that still continue to back ISIL financially and militarily while the others that used to support it have realized that the group can also pose a threat to them.
He also questioned the objectives of the so-called anti-ISIL Coalition led by the United States and said the coalition will use ISIL as a pretext to interfere in the political, security and economic affairs of Arab and Islamic countries.
The Lebanese scholar further underlined that Muslims need unity in order to confront the challenge of ISIL and Takfiri threats.
“Unity among Islamic countries and unanimous decision to fight the ISIL terrorist group would be much more effective than an international coalition,” he went on to say.
ISIL is a militant group in Iraq and Syria believed to be supported by the West and some regional Arab countries.
The terrorist group claims as an independent state the territory of Iraq and Syria, with implied future claims intended over more of the Levant, including Lebanon, occupied Palestine, Jordan, Cyprus, and Southern Turkey.
The extremist group, which controls parts of Syria's northern territory, sent its fighters into neighboring Iraq last summer, quickly seizing swaths of land straddling the border between the two countries.
The terrorist militants have committed heinous crimes including mass executions and beheadings of thousands of people in the areas under their control.
