According to al-Riyadh newspaper, the competition has been organized under the supervision of Mash’al bin Majid bin ‘Abdulaziz, governor of Jeddah.
Malik Faisal Conference Hall of the city is hosting the competition for three days.
The opening ceremony of the Quranic event was attended by Abdul Mun’im bin Abdulsalam Al-Hayati, director of students’ affairs at King Abdulaziz University of Jeddah.
Al-Hayati, who is also the head of the supervising committee of the competition, delivered a speech at the event.
Also speaking at the ceremony was Salah bin Salim, head of the organizing committee of this edition of the competition and dean of the Quranic Studies Department of the university’s Faculty of Education, who stressed the status of the Holy Quran as the eternal miracle.
741 male and female students compete in different categories including memorization of the entire Quran with Tajweed, and memorization of 20, 10 and 5 Juzes (parts) of the Holy Quran with Tajweed.
A Quranic exhibition has been held on the sidelines of the competition. Head of the general affairs of the Grand Mosques in Mecca and Medina, “Tebyan” Association of the Holy Quran and Quranic Sciences and the International Organization of the Holy Quran Memorization are among the participants at the exhibition.
