TEHRAN (IQNA) – President of the Association of Iraqi Sunni Scholars rejected extremist sermons by some radical preachers in Iraq and certain other countries, saying that they have nothing to do with Sunni Muslims.

Sheikh Khalid al-Mala added that extremists and terrorists have highjacked the moderate discourse of Sunnis since 2003.

He went on to say that extremist sermons strengthen terrorist groups like ISIL, al-Iraq.net website reported.

ISIL is a terrorist group that claims as an independent state the territory of Iraq and Syria, with implied future claims intended over more of the Levant, including Lebanon, occupied Palestine, Jordan, Cyprus, and Southern Turkey.

The group’s terrorist militants are notorious for perpetrating atrocious deeds and heinous crimes against civilians in the areas under their control.

Since June 10, 2014, Iraq has witnessed a fresh wave of violence after militants from the terrorist group took control of large swathes of the war-stricken country.
