TEHRAN (IQNA) – Iran’s representative in Turkey’s first international Quran competition said he is optimistic about winning a title in the Quranic event.

Habib Sedaqat told IQNA that he does not exactly know how the contest will be held as this will be its first edition and no one knows about the competition’s regulations.

Sedaqat, however, stressed that he is going to Turkey with full preparedness and hoped that he will win a good title.

“I will do my best to perform a good recitation,” he went on to say.

Sedaqat was selected to represent the Islamic Republic in Turkey’s international Quranic event after taking part in a special course held by the Awqaf and Charity Affairs Organization and the Supreme Quran Council.

The Iranian Qari said since he was chosen two months ago, he has been working hard to improve his recitation skills and prepare for the contest.

Turkey’s first international Quran competition started in Istanbul on Sunday and will run until Friday, July 10.

It is being held on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan. Many Muslim countries organize Quran competitions in the holy month of Ramadan every year.

Ramadan is the ninth month in the Islamic Hijri calendar. This year, it began on Thursday, June 18.
During Ramadan, Muslims all over the world fast (abstain from foods and drinks) from sunrise to sunset.

They also devote a considerable amount of time during this month to reading and contemplating the Quran.
