TEHRAN (IQNA) - The 12th edition of international Quran memorization and Tajweed competition in Algeria began on July 6 in Algiers.

According to radioalgerie.dz, the competition has been organized under the supervision of Abdul ‘Aziz Bouteflika, President of Algeria.

Muhammad ‘Isaa, Algerian minister of religious affairs, said that the competition will continue for one week with the participation of representatives from Islamic and Arab countries as well as Muslim minorities in Europe, America and Asia.

He said that 49 countries have announced their readiness to dispatch representatives for the competition.

The minister considered the Quranic event as an opportunity for developing the relation of the youth with the Holy Quran and said that three top participants will be awarded in a ceremony to be attended by the president on the 27th of the Holy Month of Ramadan (July 14).

He added that the three first-rank winners of Algeria national Quran memorization competition, which was held for Quran memorizers aged less than 15, will also be awarded in the ceremony.

Muhammad Khakpour, memorizer of the entire Quran, will represent Iran in this edition of the international competition.

He succeeded to win the second rank in the national Quran memorization competition in Iran last year.
