According to Kul al-Iraq news agency, members of the terrorist group placed bombs in Abubakr Mosque in the area and then detonated the bombs.
ISIL has so far demolished tens of mosques in the areas it controls in Iraq and Syria.
The ISIL and its associated militant groups are blamed for numerous sacrilegious acts.
The terrorist groups have links with Saudi intelligence and it is believed that they are being indirectly supported by the Israeli regime.
The ISIL militants made swift advances in much of northern and western Iraq over the summer, after capturing large swaths of northern Syria.
However, a combination of concentrated attacks by the Iraqi military and the volunteer forces, who rushed to take arms after top Iraqi cleric Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani issued a fatwa calling for fight against the militants, have blunted the edge of the ISIL offensive.
