Titled “Unity and Fighting against Takfiris”, the conference was held in southern Lebanon on Monday, September 7.
The participants also commemorated those who played a part in strengthening national unity in the Arab country, including Imam Musa Sadr, Allameh Fadlallah, and Sheikh Hassan Khaled.
Senior Lebanese Shia cleric Sayed Ali Fadlallah, Maronite Christian cleric John Jones, and Sunni Mufti Sheikh Bilal al-Mala were among the scholars who addressed the conference.
Fadlallah in his speech warned against the enemies’ plots to undermine Lebanon’s unity, calling on the Lebanese to stand united against the enemies.
Sheikh al-Mala also stressed the necessity for enhancing unity against Takfiri terrorists.
The Maronite cleric in his address highlighted the role of Imam Musa Sadr in promoting unity in Lebanon, saying that Sadr was the first one who started interfaith dialogue meetings in the country.
Imam Musa Sadr and his two companions Mohammed Yaqoub and Abbas Badreddin were kidnapped in August 1978 during an official visit to the Libyan capital, Tripoli.
Sadr was scheduled to meet with officials from the government of the Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi.
The three were never seen or heard from again and their fate is still unknown even after the overthrow of Gaddafi regime in 2011.
