If world countries prioritize fighting terrorism in Syria, it would be a right path towards resolving the problems in the Arab country, Rouhani said in a Friday meeting in New York with his Brazilian counterpart Dilma Rousseff.
One cannot claim to be fighting terrorism in Syria and at the same time try to undermine the central government, the Iranian chief executive added in reference to the US-led coalition that claims to be fighting ISIL terrorists.
Syria has been gripped by civil war since March 2011.
According to the United Nations, more than 220,000 people have been killed and one million wounded during the conflicts.
President Rouhani is in New York to attend the 70th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 70).
