Over 1000 New Mosques Built in Egypt
TEHRAN (IQNA) – Egypt’s Minister of Awqaf announced that more than 1000 mosques have been constructed in the North African country during the past year.
According to el-balad.com, Muhammad Mukhtar Jum’ah said that the ministry has financially supported the construction projects of 779 mosques.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of Cairo University’s mosque, he said that this much support is unprecedented in the history of mosque building in Egypt and the Middle East countries.
Clarifying the status of a grand mosque in Islam and its influence among people, he said that the ministry is ready to employ young preachers as imams of mosques.
He noted that it is an effective method in attracting the youth to mosques and preventing them from extremist and Takfiri thoughts and aggressive activities.
