Addressing worshippers in Zahedan on Friday, Molavi Abdul-Hamid Ismaeelzahi said the move not only hurt the feelings of Shias but also worried Sunni Muslims.
He further regretted Saudi Arabia’s severance of ties with Iran, saying it is not in the interest of the region and Muslims.

Ismaeelzahi also criticized the attacks on the Saudi diplomatic buildings in Iran following Sheikh Nimr execution.
On January 2, Saudi Arabia announced that it has executed Sheikh Nimr, among dozens of others. The execution ignited widespread international condemnation.
On January 3, furious demonstrators in the Iranian cities of Tehran and Mashhad stormed Saudi Arabia’s diplomatic buildings in protest at the execution of Sheikh Nimr.
Although Iranian officials criticized the embassy attacks and police arrested dozens involved, Saudi Arabia on Sunday cut off diplomatic relations with the Islamic Republic.
