Titled the "Khartoum International Holy Quran Award”, the contest began in the Sudanese capital on Wednesday, January 6.
According to Ahmed Hashim Ahmed, a member of the organizing committee, the international Quranic event is held in three categories, namely memorization of the entire Quran along with interpretation of 24 Juzes (parts) for men, memorization of the entire Quran for women, and memorization of three Juzes of the Quran with accurate recitation for participants from non-Muslim countries.
He said the third category is being attended by representatives of ten non-Muslim states.
According to Ahmed, there are programs for the contestants on the sidelines of the competition, including visits to Quranic centers in Khartoum and other cities.

Sudan’s international Quran contest is annually held by the country’s Holy Quran Association.
This year’s edition will continue until Wednesday, January 13.
The competition’s panel of judges includes Quran experts from Sudan, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and Algeria.
