TEHRAN (IQNA) – Organizers of the North America's largest Halal food festival are inviting people of all backgrounds to drop by this weekend.

Last year's edition of Halal Food Festival Toronto attracted 35,000 people, say organizers. About 100 vendors representing restaurants, specialty stores and bakeries will be on hand.

Metro Morning host Matt Galloway spoke with festival organizer Salima Jivraj Friday.

She said Halal products are prepared in a way that's consistent with Muslim religious teaching. But everyone is welcome.

"It's so diverse, we have a lot of fusion foods I've noticed, so butter chicken poutine, short rib poutine, then we have these things called Nihari sliders, which is South Asian but it's mixed with North American cuisine," she said.

"It's amazing for everybody. It definitely doesn't matter if you're Muslim or non-Muslim."

Halal Food Fest Toronto is at the International Centre in Mississauga. It runs Saturday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
