Qajar-Era Quran Manuscript Gifted to Astan Quds Library in Mashhad

TEHRAN (IQNA) – A rare manuscript copy of Quran dating back to the Qajar era was gifted by its owner to the central library of Astan Quds Razavi in Mashhad, northeast of Iran.

According to Hojat-ol-Islam Mohammad Hassan Nourinia, and official with the library, said that the copy measures 20.5 by 30 centimeters and has various decorations.

He said it has been calligraphed by a well-known calligrapher and Quran memorizer named Hassan ibn Molla Esmaeil Taleqani Kurai during the reign of Mohammad Shah Qajar (1834–1848).

The owner said he had long wanted to gift it to the Astan so that it can be better preserved.

The library of Astan Quds Razavi in Mashhad holds more than 97,000 manuscripts, including 22,000 rare handwritten copies of the Quran.

It is an international center for Islamic research, containing numerous manuscripts and rare works of antiquity of Islamic history.
