
According to Al-Arab newspaper, the competition began on June 18 in Doha, capital of Qatar.
Encouraging the people to read the Quran, improving the competence of Qatari Qaris, getting them ready to attend international Quran competitions and training a generation based on Quranic teachings were among the objectives of the event.
The participants competed on the memorization of 5, 10, 15, 20, and 25 juzes (parts) of Quran with observation of Tajweed principles and Tarteel recitation.
The national competition, which concluded on Monday, was attended by 418 female and 183 male Quran memorizers.
It was organized for different groups including Qatari children and foreigners residing in Qatar, new Muslims, non-Arabic speakers and memorizers of the entire Quran.
