TEHRAN (IQNA) – A workshop on ‘Interfaith Harmony and Tolerance’ which was jointly organized by the International Islamic University (IIU) and Peshawar University, ended on Monday.

The three-day workshop was a joint effort of the Iqbal International Institute for Research and Dialogue (IRD) of the IIU and Peshawar University’s Islamic Studies Department, which was attended by the top management of the both institutions and famous scholars.

"The Holy Quran is the best source of abolishing differences” said IIU Rector Dr. Masoom Yasinzai while addressing the participants of the workshop.

He urged the universities to work for creating an atmosphere of interfaith-harmony. He suggested that more workshops on the topic should be organised where religious scholars across the country should be invited to share thoughts.

The rector said such workshops could pave the way for the betterment of society and can lead it towards peace and tranquillity. The Vice Chancellor Peshawar University, Dr. Muhammad Rasool Jan, said in his remarks that all eyes are on the educational institutions as these are the sources which can take the society out of present circumstances.

He lauded both the IRD and Peshawar varsity’s Islamic Studies Department for holding the workshop. The workshop was also addressed by IIU’s Department of Hadith head Dr. Fatehur Rehman, Peshawar University’s Islamic Studies Dean Dr. Meraj ul Islam Zia, former chairman of the Council of Islamic Ideology Dr. Muhammad Khalid Masood, IRD Executive Director Dr. Husnul Amin and renowned scholars.
