TEHRAN (IQNA) – Winners of the 5th national Quran competition of Mauritania were awarded at a ceremony held on Tuesday.

The ceremony, where the winners of the top three titles in the contest received their awards, was sponsored by the African country’s national radio.

According to the competition’s panel of judges, Quran reciter Khatri Mukhtar Sheikh Ali came first and was awarded a national Mus’haf of Mauritania as well as a cash prize of 3 million ouguiyas.

Ajiya Wald Babah was the runner up and Ruqayya bint Muhammad and Bilqays bin Abdullah jointly won the third rank.

The Islamic Republic of Mauritania is a country in the Maghreb region of western North Africa.

The country’s population is estimated to be about 4 million and virtually all Mauritanians are Muslims.
