TEHRAN (IQNA) – The cultural and social deputy of Iran’s Awqaf and Charity Affairs Organization said the organization has achieved its objective of training one million memorizers of the Quran.


Hojat-ol-Islam Ahmad Sharafkhani, during a visit to the central city of Yazd, said based on a plan for training 10 million Quran memorizers in the country, the Awqaf organization undertook to help one million Iranians learn the Quran by heart in a 4-year period.

He said that by the end of the period this year, the objective was realized and 1.3 million people who took courses held by the organization memorized at last three Juzes (parts) of the Holy Book.

According to the official, the organization plans to launch a new program to train 1.5 million memorizers of the Quran in the country.

Plans for training a large number of Quran memorizers began in 2012 after Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei stressed the need for further promoting memorization of the Holy Book.
