TEHRAN (IQNA) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said fighting terrorism should continue until all terrorists in the region are eliminated.

Muslims’ Anti-Terror Campaign Should Continue to Eliminate All Terrorists

Addressing the opening ceremony of the 31st Islamic Unity International Conference, Rouhani said the plot hatched by world powers, the arrogance and the Zionist regime to spread terrorism in the region has been largely foiled.

“However, Muslims should continue on the path against terrorism until all of those behind it and their cronies in the region are eliminated.”

He lauded those who fought in Iraq and Syria against terrorism, saying their efforts were very important for security and stability in the region and all over the world.

The terrorists were a threat not only for the region but for the whole world, he stressed.

Elsewhere in his address, the president underlined the issue of Palestine, saying the great Palestinian nation will never forget the occupation of their land.

He stressed that Muslims have always sought and will always seek the liberation of Holy Quds (Jerusalem).

The 31st Islamic Unity International Conference kicked off in Tehran on Tuesday morning.

More than 500 religious and political figures and scholars from across the Muslim world are attending the three-day conference, titled “Unity and Requirements of the Modern Islamic Civilization”.

The participants will discuss ways to enhance unity and solidarity in the Islamic world.

The World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought (WFPIST) annually organizes the international event on the occasion of the Islamic Unity Week.

The 17th day of the month of Rabi al-Awwal in the lunar Hijri calendar, which falls on December 6 this year, is believed by Shia Muslims to mark the birth anniversary of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), while Sunni Muslims regard the 12th day of the month as the birthday of the last prophet.

The interval between the two dates is celebrated every year as the Islamic Unity Week.

Imam Khomeini (RA) declared the occasion as the Islamic Unity Week back in the 1980s.
