Pahang Mufti Datuk Seri Dr Abdul Rahman Osman said Al-Quran University would be able to create ample opportunities for huffaz graduates.
Through its 14th General Election Manifesto, BN aimed to produce at least 125,000 huffaz with professional qualifications such as science, mathematics and engineering by the year 2050.
“The Quran is very comprehensive as it covers all aspects, not only religious matters but the context is related to matters of science, technology and such.
“An Al-Quran University ought to be established for the greater good of Muslims in the world,” he told NSTP when contacted today.
In its election manifesto, BN promised to establish the university in Kelantan.
Rahman added that the study of the Quran in other countries such as Egypt and India was more advanced than in Malaysia.
“That is why I say the establishment of such a university is timely. We need to be ahead of our time when it comes to religious studies and studying the Quran.
“The huffaz from India and Egypt can memories hundreds of thousands of hadiths and why shouldn’t we be like that?” he said.
Perak Mufti Tan Sri Harussani Zakaria said the establishment of the university would invite more huffaz scholars to the country.
“Alhamdulillah the idea of establishing an Al-Quran University to not only produce Huffaz, but also those who are experts in other studies is beneficial to all.
“Such a university would create students who are not only experts in religious studies, but also in other fields,” he said.
