Quran Competition Held in Belgium
TEHRAN (IQNA) – A Quran competition was held in Belgium featuring memorization of the Holy Book and observing the principles of Tajweed.
According to nadorcity,com website, a total of 45 contenders competed in two sections for boys and girls.
It was organized by the Belgium Muslims Assembly at al-Islam Mosque in the city of Maasmechelen.
Quran scholar Sheikh Muhammad al-Qajaj headed the panel of judges.
It was the 12th edition of the annual contest held at different levels of memorization of the Quran.
The Belgian government does not collect or publish statistics on religious affiliation, so the exact number of Muslims in Belgium is unknown. In 2014, various sources estimated Muslims to be 4.0% to 6.5% of the country's population.
