TEHRAN (IQNA) – A program that was planned to be held to honor Iran’s Quranic figures was called off and will be held at a later date, an official said.

Hojat-ol-Islam Mohammad Reza Shafiei, secretary of the 14th National Ceremony to Honor Quranic Figures, told IQNA that the program has been slated for Friday, March 6, but was cancelled due to the concerns over the spread of the novel coronavirus.

He said the ceremony will be held in coming Iranian calendar year (starts on March 20) after the disease is contained.

Iran’s Health Ministry said on Tuesday that the number of people who have died from the coronavirus in the country has risen to 15 and the total number of confirmed cases to 95.

At least 24 people infected with COVID-19 have recovered from the disease after being admitted to the hospital.
