Eid al-Fitr Visits Banned in Algeria
TEHRAN (IQNA) – Algeria’s Religious Affairs Ministry issued a statement prohibiting any visits to homes of relatives and friends during Eid al-Fitr holidays.
According to Anadolu Agency, it called on the North African country’s people to use phones and the cyberspace to congratulate the Eid to one another.
It said Sialt al-Rahim, which means associating and meeting with relatives, is not allowed in current conditions because it could lead to further spread of the coronavirus.
The country’s health ministry has called on the government to impose a curfew during the holidays to prevent visits.
Algeria has recorded 6,872 coronavirus cases and 113 deaths from COVID-19.
Eid al-Fitr marks the end of the holy fasting month of Ramadan and the beginning of the month of Shawwal. It will fall on May 24 or 25.
