Egypt’s Quranic Association Disqualifies Qari for Insulting Remarks about Abdul Basit
The association’s spokesman, Mohamed al-Saati, said remarks by Salah al-Jamal in which he has called himself the “number one” and spoken rudely about such iconic Qaris as Abdul Basit and Sehikh Mustafa Ismail have led to disappointment among the members.
The association regrets such a conduct and suspends al-Jamal’s membership, he added, according to youm7.com website.
He added that the association also welcomes a move by the Union of Egypt’s TV and Radio Stations to disqualify al-Jamal as a Qari.
Egypt is a country in North Africa with a population of around 96 million.
Muslims account for around 90 percent of the country’s total population.
Quranic activities are very common in the Muslim-majority Arab country and many of the Muslim world’s top Qaris in the past and present have been Egyptian.
