Syrian Mufti Mohammed Adnan Afiouni Laid to Rest
TEHRAN (IQNA) – The funeral for Grand Mufti of Damascus Sheikh Mohammed Adnan Afiouni was held in the Syrian capital on Friday.
Sheikh Afiouni was killed in a car bombing in the town of Qudsaya, west of Damascus on Thursday.
The funeral was held at the Umayyad Mosque with the participation of senior officials and a large number of people.
Among the officials was Mohammad Abdul-Sattar al-Sayyed, the minister of Awqaf who was attending the event on behalf of President Bashar al-Assad, SANA reported.
In an address, al-Sayyed hailed Sheikh Afiouni as a martyr of the homeland.
Sheikh Afiouni was a senior cleric and member of the Syrian Awqaf Ministry’s Scholarly and Fiqh (jurisprudence) Council.
