Nigeria Nat’l Quran Contest Concludes

TEHRAN (IQNA) – The 35th edition of Nigeria’s national Quran contest concluded in a ceremony on Saturday.

 

The competition was held in Kano State, north of the country, according to the Tribune.

Addressing the closing ceremony, held at the convocation arena of the Bayero University, Kano, the state governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, represented by his deputy, Nasiru Gawuna, said a total 180 males and 190 females from the 36 states of the federation and FCT participated in the nine-day Quranic event.

The top winners were Muhammad Auwal Gusau from Zamfara State in the male category and Nusaiba Shu’aibu Ahmed from Kano State in the female category.

They were awarded cash prizes of N2.5 million each, according to the report.

“Our administration has made it as part of its cardinal responsibility to improve Islamic education especially as it relates to Quranic recitation and memorization at all levels. That is why we established the first ever Kano State Quranic and Islamiyya Schools Management Board which has today achieved a lot in the promotion of Islamic education,” the official said.

He also vowed continued support to the national Quran competition and appreciated the contribution of Usmanu Dan Fodio University, Sokoto, for conducting and managing the annual Quranic recitation competition in the country.
