TEHRAN (IQNA) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif described dialogue and negotiations as the best option for Afghanistan to resolve the country’s crises.

Addressing a round of intra-Afghan talks here in Tehran on Wednesday, he referred to the unfavorable outcomes of the continuation of clashes in Afghanistan and said returning to the negotiating table and commitment to a political solution is the best choice for Afghanistan’s leaders and political groups.

He said Iran stands ready to help the neighboring country resolve its conflicts and achieve lasting peace.

The Islamic Republic is also committed to help Afghanistan in its efforts for all-out development in political, economic and social fields after establishment of peace in the country, he added.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Zarif highlighted the US failure in Afghanistan after two decades of presence in the Asian country and said the people and leaders of Afghanistan should make tough decisions today for the future of their country.

Tehran is hosting four delegations, including representatives of the Afghan government and parliament, the Taliban group and prominent figures supporting the Republic system in the war-torn country.

Taliban’s spokesman Mohammed Naeem Wardak said via Twitter that the militant group’s trip to Tehran comes at the official invitation of the Islamic Republic of Iran. He said Sher Mohammad Abbas Stanikzai, the head of Taliban’s political office in Qatar’s Doha, leads the delegation to Tehran.

Meanwhile, the government’s delegation is headed by former Vice President of Afghanistan Yunus Qanuni.
