Int’l Quran Contest for Women to Kick Off in Dubai on November 20

TEHRAN (IQNA) – The Dubai International Holy Quran Award (DIHQA) said the 5th edition of the Quran competition for women will start in the UAE city on November 20.

It said preparations for holding the contest, named Sheikha Hind Bint Maktoum Holy Quran Competition, have concluded, alkhaleej.ae website reported.

Ibrahim Bu Milha, adviser to the Ruler of Dubai for Cultural and Humanitarian Affairs and chairman of the DIHQA organizing committee, said women Quran memorizers from over 40 countries have so far announced their readiness to take part in the Quranic event.

He said the number of participants is expected to rise in the coming days.

The contenders will start arriving in Dubai on November 17 and there will be a preliminary assessment to make sure that they are qualified to attend the contest.

Participants should be 25 years old or younger and be memorizer of the entire Quran with mastery over the rules of Tajweed.

The panel of judges comprises senior Quran experts from different countries with the experience of judging in other international Quran competitions.

The DIHQA annually organizes the international Quranic event for women. Last year it was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Representatives of 68 countries competed in this edition of the international Quran contest, which was held in 2019.
