TEHRAN (IQNA) – People took to the streets across Jordan on Friday to voice their protest against agreements signed with the Zionist regime of Israel.

Anti-normalization rally in Jordan

This is the second week demonstrations are held in Jordan against ties with the Israeli regime, according to Palestineinfo website.

The rallies are held at the request of Islamic parties and movements in the Arab country.

The demonstrators on Friday chanted slogans in condemnation of the deals with the Zionists and called on the Amman government to annul all the agreements with the occupying regime.

They also urged Jordan’s parliament to take steps to nullify the agreements.

Jordan, Israel, and the United Arab Emirates signed a water-for-energy deal in the presence of US climate envoy John Kerry last month. The initiative is subject to feasibility studies.

Under the agreement, Jordan would supply Israel with 600 megawatts of power generated from a solar plant that would be built by the UAE, which became the first Persian Gulf Arab country to normalize ties with Tel Aviv last year, while Israel would provide water-scarce Jordan with 200 million cubic meters of desalinated water in return.

Right after the agreement was announced, students staged sporadic demonstrations at university campuses across Jordan despite a ban on protests, calling on the kingdom to cut ties with Tel Aviv and scrap the project.

Jordan signed a so-called peace deal with Israel in 1994, but Jordanians are at odds with their government and oppose any form of normalization of ties with the occupying regime.

The vast majority of Arabs also oppose normalization and support the Palestinian cause.
