The Ahl-ul-Bayt (AS) Mosque in Cape Town hosted the commemoration ceremony, which was attended by Shia and Sunni Muslims of the city.

In a speech, Hojat-ol-Islam Aftab Haidar Razvi, the head of South Africa’s Ahl-ul-Bayt (AS) Islamic Center highlighted the virtues of General Soleimani as a symbol of steadfastness and resistance against the oppressors and arrogant powers of the world.

Iranian Cultural Attaché in South Africa Ahmad Ali Mohsenzadeh also addressed the ceremony, talking about the reason for creation of human beings.

He cited verses 2 and 3 of Surah al-Ankabut (29) of the Holy Quran “Do people think they will not be tested because they say, ‘We have faith?’ We had certainly tried those who lived before them to make sure who were truthful in their faith and who were liars,” and said God tests and tries people through difficulties and other ways.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Mohsenzadeh referred to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution’s statements in praise of Martyr Soleimani, and said the enemies imagined that by assassinating him, they could eliminate his holy path and objective but they failed to realize that Martyr Soleimani is a school of thought that cannot be eliminated.

The memorial service was broadcast live via the Facebook page of the center, according to the Islamic Culture and Relations Organization.

General Soleimani, who was the commander of the IRGC Quds Force, Iraqi Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) Deputy Commander Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, and a number of their entourage were killed in a strike by American drones near Baghdad International Airport in the early hours of January 3, 2020.

The White House and the Pentagon claimed responsibility for the assassinations, saying the attack was carried out at the direction of then US president Donald Trump.
