TEHRAN (IQNA) – Israeli settlers today attempted torching a Palestinian house in the occupied West Bank city of Hebron, local sources confirmed.

Imad Abu Shamsiya, the founder of Human Rights Defenders, said that settlers from the a nearby illegal colonial settlement of Ramat Yishai, located in the heart of Hebron, attempted setting the house of Tayseer Abu Eisha on fire in the area of Tal al-Ramida.

He added that Abu Eisha’s house is the closest to the settlement.

Abu Shamisya noted that the family woke up to the settlers attempting to cut off the barbed-wire fence separating the house from the settlement and setting a sun shade sail used to protect the house on fire.

He added that Abu Eisha’s house has become a frequent target of settler attack with the purpose of driving the family out of the house.

Settler violence against Palestinians and their property is routine in the West Bank and is rarely prosecuted by Israeli authorities.

Settler violence includes property and mosque arsons, stone-throwing, uprooting of crops and olive trees, attacks on vulnerable homes, among others.

There are over 700,000 Israeli settlers living in colonial settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.

The city of Hebron, which houses the Ibrahimi Mosque, is home to roughly 160,000 Palestinian Muslims and about 800 notoriously aggressive Israeli settlers who live in compounds heavily guarded by Israeli troops.

Israel has expelled the only international monitors protecting Hebron’s Palestinians from 800 heavily guarded settlers, one of whom committed the 1994 massacre that triggered their deployment.
