Iran Only Country Holding Int’l Quran Contest for Students: Official

TEHRAN (IQNA) – An Iranian Education Ministry official said the Islamic Republic is the only country that holds an international Quran competition for school students.

Speaking at a press conference featuring the upcoming international Quranic event, Mikaeil Baqeri, director general of the ministry’s Quran, Etrat and Prayers Department, noted that the final stage of the 7th international Quran competition for Muslim world’s school students will kick off on Monday, February 28 and run through March 5.

He said 20 school students, 12 boys and 8 girls, have made it to the finals in the categories of Quran recitation and memorization.

Baqeri added that 11 foreign Quran experts and 10 Iranian Quranic figures have served in the competition’s panel of arbiters since the start of the contest.

He also said that there are 17 major international Quran competitions in the Muslim world and Iran’s is the only one organized biennially for school students.
