TEHRAN (IQNA) – The head of the Quranic Affairs Center of Iran’s Awqaf and Charity Affairs Organization stressed the need for founding a union of international Quran competition organizers.

Hamid Majidimehr

If international Quran contests are going to improve and their regulations are going to be standardized, the only way is creation of an international union, Hamid Majidimehr said at a press conference here in Tehran on Saturday.

He added that the Awqaf and Charity Affairs Organization is ready to host the permanent secretariat of such an international body.

The official added that contacts will be made in the near future with countries organizing international Quranic events in order to discuss the issue.

Elsewhere at the press conference, which featured the upcoming international Quran contest in Iran, Majidimehr noted that 190 Quran reciters and memorizers from 69 countries attended the preliminary round of this year’s competition, which is its 38th edition.

He said after evaluations made by the panel of arbiters, 62 contenders from 29 countries made it to the finals.

He added that the final stage will official open on Monday, February 28, in Tehran and run through March 5.

“One Book, One Ummah” is the motto of this year’s edition, Majidimehr noted.

Promoting bonds with the Holy Quran, enhancing ties with Muslims all over the world, and setting the ground for strengthening Islamic unity are among the objectives of the competition, he went on to say.

Iran’s Awqaf and Charity Affairs Organization annually organizes the international Quranic event with the participation of Quran activists from various countries.
