ICRO Chief Calls for Promoting Iran, Iraq Religious Tourism

TEHRAN (IQNA) – Head of the Islamic Culture and Relations Organization (ICRO) Hojat-ol-Islam Mohammad Mehdi Imanipour hailed the status of religious tourism between Iran and Iraq and said potentials for developing it should be identified and tapped.

Speaking in a meeting in Tehran with Iraqi Minister of Culture, Tourism and Antiquities Hassan Nazim, Imanipour said production of religious documentaries can help enhance religious tourism between the two countries.

Stressing the good capacities in Iran’s film industry, he voiced readiness for production of joint movies and documentaries with Iraq.

He also hailed the growing academic cooperation between the two sides.

Imanipour said that given the cultural commonalities between the two countries, ground for cooperation is available in all areas.

He further elaborated on the activities and missions of ICRO, saying the organization seeks to introduce aspects of Iran’s ancient civilization, true Islam and the achievements of the Islamic Revolution as well as tourism attractions of Iran to the world.

Nazim, for his part, appreciated the Islamic Republic of Iran for standing by the Iraqi nation in the fight against terrorism.

He also referred to the participation of millions of Iranian pilgrims in the annual Arbaeen march and said it shows the depth of the cultural and religious bonds between the two nations.

He expressed Iraq’s readiness for joint cooperation with Iran in the fields of culture, arts, tourism and cinema.

Heading a delegation, the Iraqi minister of culture, tourism and antiquities arrived in Tehran on Friday for talks with Iran’s cultural officials.

He is also scheduled to visit the holy cities of Qom and Mashhad and meet with scholars and thinkers during his stay in Iran.
