Int’l Quran Contest Concludes in Iraq as Iranians Sweep Awards

TEHRAN (IQNA) – The first edition of an international Quran competition for representatives of holy shrines wrapped up in Iraq’s Karbala with Iranian representatives winning top places.

 

Organized by the Dar-ol-Quran Center affiliated to the Astan (custodianship) of Imam Hussein (AS) holy shrine, the competition started on July 23 at Imam Hussein (AS) holy shrine.

Representatives from Iraq, Egypt, Syria, Lebanon, Iran, and Afghanistan took part in the contest, competing in memorization and recitation categories.

The closing and awarding ceremony of the event was held on Tuesday.

In the memorization category, Ahmad Dabbagh from Iran claimed first place while Mehdi Hassani and Reza Nezhad Tabrizi, also both from Iran, stood next. Iraq’s Ali Aghil and Egypt’s Islam Nuh finished 4th and 5th.

The top prize in the recitation category went to Mohammad Ali Forughi from Afghanistan.

Iran’s Hadi Esfidani and Hamidreza Moghadasi won second and third ranks.

The Astan of Imam Hussein (AS) holy shrine also revealed its plans to expand the competition in the next edition by inviting representatives from major mosques from across the Islamic world.
