TEHRAN (IQNA) – The candidacy registration process to win Katara Prize for Quran Recitation in its 6th edition was opened on Monday.

The Cultural Village Foundation (Katara) announced the opening from Sept 1 to Nov 30, under the theme "Adorn the Quran with Your Voices" in its full commitment to the cultural, religious role in the Arab and Islamic region.

The program is intended to encourage and discover the premium talents in Quran recitation to present highly distinguished reciters to the whole world based on Tajweed rules and provisions to discover the best reciter.

The committee evaluate the performance of all contenders to select 100 of the best participants to be further qualified to the finals in Doha.

A 100 qualifiers will participate in the sixth round qualifiers through 20 TV episodes, where five contenders will compete in each episode and the best qualifiers will be selected from each episode.

In addition, there are some prerequisites that have been set for those who are willing to participate in the contest, including filling out the candidacy form prepared by the prize committee that should be submitted with a combined video displaying the participant's voice reciting two video footages, the video duration shall never exceed six minutes, and the reciting should be through adherence to Quran Tajweed rules.

To win this prize, the committee has set a number of conditions, including that the participants should be male only and not be less than 18 years old.

The contenders should not be an imam of mosques, preachers, teachers of Sharia, previously obtained an international award in reciting the Qur'an during the years 2020-2021, or issued his own Qur'anic recordings in markets, radio stations, television stations, or other media.

Katara Prize for Qur'an Recitation allocated QR900,000 for winners, the first place winner will receive QR500,000, the second will receive QR300,000, and the third will receive QR100,000.
