TEHRAN (IQNA) – According to officials, 41 individuals from 31 countries are set to participate in the final round of the 62nd edition of Malaysia’s international Quran contest.

The final round of the 62nd edition of Malaysia International Al-Quran Recital and Memorization Assembly (MTHQA) is set to be held in-person from October 19 to 24 at Kuala Lumpur Convention Center (KLCC).

The preliminary round was held virtually in July.

According to Datuk Haji Idris bin Ahmad, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs), countries whose representatives have made it to the final include Algeria, Jordan, UK, Canada, Afghanistan, and Belgium.

The contest was postponed for two and half years due to concerns over the coronavirus pandemic.

MTHQA usually had two categories of recitation and memorization, however, this year’s edition only features recitation.

Ahmad also said the restriction came to mitigate the threat of COVID-19 for participants and people.

Masoud Nouri is Iran's representative in the contest.

Department of Islamic Development Malaysia, better known as JAKIM which organizes the event, has invited people to watch the contest at KLCC that start at 8:45 PM local time.

The competitions will also be broadcast live on RTM TV1 and JAKIM social media channels.
